Something From Nothing

Life is a cycle of endings and beginnings—that’s the idea behind the title of Bluffton band Something from Nothing. Featuring Jonathan King (guitar, lead vocals), Chip Larkby (drums), Scott Evans (lead guitar, vocals), and Jon Mitchell (bass, vocals), Something From Nothing blends melodic hard rock with lyrics about broken dreams and lost loves.

The band traces its roots back to 2002 when Jonathan King met Chip Larkby (Jani St. James of Silicone Sister). The pair cut their teeth playing covers in a series of bar bands in the Hilton Head music scene with Chip on drums, and Jonathan on guitar and vocals. Jonathan left the music scene in 2005, but Chip continued and periodically urged Jonathan to start playing out again.

After many years out of the music scene, Jonathan began to collaborate with Chip again, this time with a collection of original material. Jonathan King leads the band as the principal songwriter. His songs are inspired by the endings and new beginnings in life—particularly human relationships.

Something from Nothing has been playing at bars and clubs in the Bluffton and Hilton Head Island, SC area since early 2018. Jonathan and Chip hope to support the local original music scene in the Lowcountry and find a wider audience for their brand of rock.
